History
On December 10, 1986, Joe and Francesca Pratten opened The Candyman Chocolates. In the 1990's the day to day operations of the store was passed on to Joe and Francesca's daughter Gabriella. In the late 1990's Patrick and Karen Hernandez purchased The Candyman Chocolates from the Prattens. On October 25, 2007 Angelo and Shannon Amato purchased The Candyman Chocolates and have committed to continuing the tradition of offering the finest handmade chocolates in the Hudson Valley and Capital District areas that the Prattens started over 20 years ago.
For over 20 years, The Candyman Chocolates, has provided the finest chocolates to chocolate lovers all around the world. We use the best ingredients and still make all our fillings by hand in small batches in the original copper kettle. Long-standing patrons of The Candyman Chocolates will remember seeing the world map Joe Pratten used to showcase the areas around the world The Candyman Chocolates were shipped. Angelo and Shannon still have that same map and plan to frame it to highlight the ends of the earth our chocolates have reached.
Today, we begin a new phase in the shipping process by adding the ability to purchase products directly through our website. We chose to start with a limited selection of our most popular chocolates and will expand the selection a little at a time.
Angelo and Shannon have worked to retain the same traditional chocolates that our patrons have come to love while expanding our product selection, instituting and updating our website, adding the shopping cart component to modernize our shipping capabilities and by adding an outdoor seating area so people can enjoy our ice cream, milkshakes, floats, malts and, of course, chocolates while overlooking the Catskill Creek.
Our latest addition is our new hot drinking chocolate. This is not your everyday cup of powder and water! Our drinking chocolate is just that; finely ground chocolate mixed with cream and heated to just the right temperature to produce a rich, smooth, velvety, delicious chocolate drink.
As we continue the tradition of offering the best in handmade chocolates, check back often and see what we are up to. We are always adding new products to complement our chocolate selection. And don't forget about our ice cream and ice cream cakes.
Kids young and old have come to love our soft-serve ice cream and our custom made ice cream cakes. In 2008, we added Perry's hard ice cream to our product lineup. Who knows what we have in store for 2009 and beyond!
